ACT Fibernet and F-Secure launch new ‘ACT Shield’ solution in India
Indian operator ACT Fibernet, in partnership with cyber security provider F-Secure, launched their new ‘ACT Shield’ safety and security application. The solution brings F-Secure’s industry-leading protection to Indian consumers through ACT Fibernet – one of India’s largest ISPs (internet service providers). Thanks to India’s increasing demand for internet services, there is an exponential jump in the usage of online devices – ranging from desktops, laptops, phones, tablets, IoT devices, and more. The increased use of devices and online activity has increased users’ potential exposure to phishing, spyware, malware and ransomware, which threaten to compromise their sensitive personal and financial information.

Homegrown on-demand video service platform Zee5 has been named one of the top 10 most downloaded streaming app worldwide in June 2020, along with other giants like YouTube, Netflix, Amazon Prime Videos, Disney+ and others. According to the ‘State of Internet Traffic Trend’ report by ACT Fibernet, India saw a 55% hike in overall streaming traffic during the Covid-19 resultant lockdown between March to May. Interestingly, unlike pre-Covid times, there is no significant difference in traffic during the weekdays and weekends. On the contrary, the platforms are noting a much greater hike on the weekdays. The report highlights that there is a 73% hike on weekdays and a 65% increase during the weekend.
Indian Broadband Service Providers Lost 160,000 Subscribers in April
The Indian wired broadband service providers lost 160,000 subscribers in April, the Telecom Regulatory Authority of India (Trai) highlighted in a report on Friday. According to the Trai report, the fixed broadband subscriber base in India dipped to 19.02 million in April as compared to 19.18 million in March. It has to be noted that India was under intense lockdown due to the COVID-19 pandemic since March 24. Atria Convergence Technologies recorded a subscriber base of 1.59 million in April as compared to 1.61 million in March. The operator lost 0.02 million or 20,000 subscribers in April.

Excitel eyes ₹200-cr fund raise, to expand to 50 Indian cities
Broadband service provider Excitel is in talks with investors to raise ₹200 crore in funding as it looks to expand FTTH (fibre to the home) deployment on its network and establish presence in 50 cities by December 2021 The top five service providers in the total broadband subscriber base constituted 98.99% market share at the end of March. Reliance Jio Infocomm Ltd had 388.39 million users, Bharti Airtel (148.57 million), Vodafone Idea (117.45 million), BSNL (24.50 million) and Atria Convergence (ACT) (1.61 million).
